Projects

I have worked on some projects of environmental and societal importance and published some research and review papers with their findings. Some major research projects I have worked on are given as follows in reverse chronological order.

SERS Detection of Pathogens in Water

Doctoral Research Candidate

Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai

Skills and Instruments:

Raman Spectroscopy, FTIR, Template molding, GCMS, Bioreactor designing, thermoshaker, incubator shaker, Laminar airflow, microscope, Kjeldahl apparatus, CHNS, TOC/TN, HPLC, SEM, TEM, Machine Learning, flexible substrate synthesis etc.

Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) is being used to identify and differentiate the bacteria and their toxins from contaminated water.

Fermentation intensification using ultrasound for high value metabolites production

Project Associate-I

Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai

Instruments handled:

GCMS, Bioreactor, thermoshaker, incubator shaker, Laminar airflow, microscope, Kjeldahl apparatus, CHNS, TOC/TN, HPLC, etc.

We are using Bacterial fermentation for high-value metabolite production. Further, efforts are under process for the enhancement of yield and reduction of production cost through the media and reactor engineering.

Characterization of Feta cheese produced from vegetable resources

Dissertation trainee

Netaji Subhas University of Technology &

National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal

Instruments handled:

Texture analyzer, rheometer, water activity meter, colour analyzer, viscometer, Kjeldahl apparatus, etc.

Cow milk based vegetarian Feta cheese was produced by using the crude plant protease extracted through the bioprospecting of several vegetable resources. Crude extract derived feta cheese was observed comparable to the commercially available rennet drive cheese and was recommended by the experts.

Adsorptive removal of Azo dyes on lignocellulosic biomass derived activated carbon

Research Intern

Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) varanasi

Instruments handled:

UV-Visible spectrophotometer, muffle furnace, shaker- incubator, filtration assembly, etc.

Pine needles are the major cause of forest fire that occurs every year in the Indian Himalayan region. Due to their lignocellulosic nature, these needles don't degrade and cause harm to biodiversity as well. Pine needle powder was used as a raw material for activated carbon development with Zinc impregnation and excellent adsorptive removal of azo dyes was observed.

Removal of Pharmaceutical and Personal care Products (PPCP’s) from
contaminated water by Pine Needle based activated carbon/ Biological Activated carbon

Project Assistant-II

GBP National Institute of Himalayan Environment, Almora

Instruments handled:

CHNS, AAS, HPLC, Muffle furnace, tubular furnace, FID, turbidometer, UV-visible spectrophotometer, shaker-incubator, filtration assembly, etc.

Pharmaceutical and personal care compounds are the most emerging environmental pollutants causing several harmful impacts on aquatic life. Pine- needle-derived activated carbon was used to provide support to the Himalayan bacterial isolates for the development of biological activated carbon. Attempts were made in optimizing the process that has given excellent removal capacity.

Isolation of Fungal Strains from Degrading Pine Needles from soils of hilly tract of Uttarakhand

Graduation Research project

B.T. Kumaon Institute of Technology, Dwarahat

Instruments handled:

Laminar airflow, Incubator-shaker, microscope, autoclave, centrifuge, crystallizer, filter-press, pH, DO, EC and TDS meter, etc.

Pine litter is lignocellulosic biomass that usually falls in abundance in the summer season. Due to its calorific value and coinciding fall period with the hottest months of the year, these needles made the whole himalaya vulnerable. Samples of degraded pine litter from undisturbed moist sites were collected and different fungal strains were isolated for its degradation.

Raised Bed Cultivation under shade Net with Drip Irrigation System

Diploma Research Project

Government Ploytechnic Kashipur

Earth's topography isn't the same throughout, so is the land's fertility.

There are places like Indo-Gangetic plains where the soil is rich in nutrients. On the other hand, some places like Greenland, Sahara, etc don't even have rigid top soil to hold vegetation.

So, a Raised-bed with a specific ratio of soil, vermicompost, and compost was made to perform the cultivation on the sand during extreme summer (temperature range 40-45 degrees centigrade). Green shade-net and polythene sheets were applied on horizontal and vertical walls and as minimal irrigation, drip irrigation was used.

Overall setup gave high production of a range of vegetable, flower and medicinal plant species.
