Indian Institute of Technology Bombay Monash Research Academy

It's my pleasure to have you here.

I am a researcher currently pursuing my Ph.D. at IITB-Monash Research Academy under the joint supervision of Prof. Shobha Shukla (IIT Bombay Supervisor) and Prof. Bayden Wood (Monash University supervisor) on "SERS detection of pathogens in water".

Earlier, before joining IITB Monash Research Academy I have worked at the Fermentation Lab, Department of Biotechnology, Center for Energy Biosciences, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai on "Fermentation intensification for high-value metabolites using ultrasound" under Dr. Gunjan Prakash.

Research Interests:

  • Environment and Wastewater treatment

  • Bioprospecting, fermentation, and enzyme engineering

  • Dairy and food development

  • Adsorption: detection and downstream engineering

  • Mathematical modeling

Personal Interests:

  • Poetry and fiction writing

  • Acting and dancing

  • Singing and anchoring

  • Painting and cooking

I am an active reader and I have a thrust of knowing the subtle details. I am open to multidisciplinary research and currently working at the Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science (MEMS) IIT Bombay for my doctoral studies.

Academic expedition

Since my childhood, I always wondered about completing my education unhindered due to several circumstances. I was having high hopes and dedication about my future, However, I  was not aware of the journey. All in all, I would say It was a great experience that has evolved me into an efficient resource utilizing engineer.

I am always eager towards science and research since my lower secondary education. So, apart from active participation in classroom experiments I always participate in Science fairs, exhibitions, and consortiums. I got the 1st State Science Excellence Award from the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand in 2011 and was Later Awarded by RajyaPuraskaar. Apart from the science and academics, I was also an active member of the National Cadet Corps (N.C.C.), Bharat Scouts and Guides (B.S.& G.).

After completing my Higher secondary from U.H.I.C. Kashipur (a semi-government state board Hindi medium school) I joined the Government Polytechnic Kashipur for 3 years engineering Diploma in Agricultural Engineering. During my major project, I have developed a "Raised bed cultivation under shade net with drip irrigation system" and cultivated the medicinal, vegetable, and flower species in the sandy soil and moderately high temperature. Apart from the projects as a part of the curriculum, I have done one month of Industrial training at the Sugarcane Research Center Kashipur. I also have served with National Service Scheme (N.S.S.) during the diploma.

In my graduation from the Department of Biochemical Engineering, Bipin Tripathi Kumaon Institute of Technology Dwarahat, I have isolated 19 lignocellulosic biomass-degrading fungal strains from the hilly tracts of Uttarakhand for biofuel production. As a part of the curriculum, I have completed 4 industrial trainings from Indian Glycols Limited Kashipur, Himgiri food and refineries Pvt. ltd, Rama testing and research center, and Naini Tissues Pvt. ltd. on Ethanol Fermentation, food processing and packaging, oil extraction, its testing and wastewater treatment. I have presented one of my training work at two national conferences and also got the Best Paper award for the same. Apart from my academics, I have served as a founding member of our departmental technical society "Biochemical Engineering Technical Association" and editor of the "Biochemica Genesis" departmental newsletter. Besides. I was an active part of different fest and workshop Organizing committees and was associated with different societies.

After graduation, I further joined the Sri Ram Solvent Extractions Pvt. Ltd. as a Quality control In-charge but my yearning towards doing research doesn't allow me to settle with the job. So, I joined the G.B.Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (GBP-NIHE) Almora as a Project Assistant-II and worked on the "Removal of PPCP compounds from Pine needle-derived Activated Carbon/ biological Activated Carbon" for around a year.

For my Postgraduation studies, I joined the Department of Biological Sciences and Engineering, Netaji Subhas University of Technology, Delhi. During my Dissertation under Dr. Soumya Sasmal, I have worked on the Characterization of Feta cheese produces from vegetable resources. Besides, for my dissertation phase-II, I have worked at the National dairy Research Institute-ICAR Karnal under the guidance of Dr. Yogesh Khetra. I also have attended the Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi for a research internship under Dr. Bhawna Verma and worked on "Adsorptive removal of anionic and cationic azo dyes on pine litter derived Activated Carbon".

Before joining the Ph.D. program I wanted to develop some advanced instrumental and analytical skills. So, I joined the DBT, Center for Energy Biosciences, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai as a Project Associate-I, and during my tenure at DBT-ICT-CEB I have learned and operated many advanced and sophisticated instruments.

Later, I joined IITB Monash Research Academy for my doctoral studies.
